Antelope by Moonlight Is Back On July 15, 2022!

Antelope by Moonlight Is Back On July 15, 2022!

Are you ready for the ride of your life?

Antelope by Moonlight (ABM) has been a Utah tradition since 1994, gathering friends and family together to ride through the beautiful landscape at Antelope State Park.

But this isn’t just any ride. You’ll see Antelope Island as never before: after dark, under the moonlight.

Ready to learn more about this summer’s ABM? Below, check out event details, participant requirements, ticket prices, and even how to rent a Magnum e-bike for this incredible event.

The golden hour before the ride, 2021.

Antelope by Moonlight 2022 Event Details

Here’s everything you need to know when deciding to join us at ABM this year.

What is ABM?

The 28th annual Antelope by Moonlight (ABM) is a nighttime journey through Antelope State Park for bicyclists and e-cyclists alike. This is not a race; just a beautiful ride.

All registered participants receive entry to the island (on state park property), access to a pre-ride party, a t-shirt, and a mid-ride snack.

Plus, feeling inspired? This year’s theme is “Ride Into the Moonlit Sky,” so use that to dream up an individual costume, group costume, or e-bike decorations — winners in each category will take home incredible prizes.

When Is This Year’s Event?

  • Friday, July 15, 2022
  • Check-in is at 7:00 pm
  • Ride starts at 10:00pm

Where Does The Ride Take Place?

Park and check in at Antelope Island Marina. The ride will take you from the marina to Fielding Garr Ranch and back.

How Far Is The Ride And How Long Does It Take?

The ride is 24 miles total. It’s not a loop, so it’s about 12 miles in and 12 miles back. This can take anywhere from 1 hour to 3 hours, depending on your pace.

What’s The Elevation Gain During The Ride?

The course has about 300 feet of elevation gain (from roughly 4200 feet up to 4500 feet) in the first 2-3 miles. After ascending and descending that first hill, you’ll stay between 4200-4350 feet for most of the rest of the ride.

Since Antelope by Moonlight isn’t a loop course, you’ll conquer that same hill again toward the end of your ride. You can do this — and it’s a great time for e-bike riders to be thankful for your pedal assist system (PAS)!

Required Equipment To Participate

In accordance with the best practices for safety as well as Utah state law, all Antelope by Moonlight participants must be equipped with:

  • Working headlights, taillights, and reflectors
  • An ANSI- and Snell-approved helmet
  • Look for certification labels inside your helmet

Limited quantities of helmets and light packages will be available for purchase on the day of the ride.

ABM also recommends reflective clothing during this nighttime ride, though it’s not required.

Magnum Summits, all lined up for Antelope Island 2021.
